Centre for Environment Education (CEE) is a Center of Excellence supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India.The Centre’s primary objective is to improve public awareness and understanding of the environment with a view to promote sustainable development. CEE identifies the educational interventions in the developmental programmes, develops innovative educational programmes to support sustainable development. CEE is internationally recognized institution with international networks and partnerships to further Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) globally.
Over 250 Educators, Communicators and Experts across the Globe who participated in a two-day parallel International Conference on Biodiversity Conservation and Education for Sustainable Development – Learning to Conserve Biodiversity in a Rapidly Changing World at the CBD Conference Of Parties (COP) 11 in October 2012 in Hyderabad, India, (organized by CEE in partnership with the MoEFCC and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Government of India; the Secretariat CBD; UNESCO; UNEP and GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) of UNDP, have urged the Secretariat CBD to adopt their recommendations. The recommendations focusing on the integration of ESD in the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity are captured in the Outcome Document of the conference.
CEE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the CBD Secretariat at COP 11 to cooperate, collaborate and facilitate the educational efforts of the CBD in the promotion of Aichi Biodiversity Targets at the global level in the UN Decade on Biodiversity (2011–2020) and take the recommendations forward. This initiative includes collaboration on foundational research, engaging relevant partners and stakeholders for wider sharing of information, learning, implementation and scaling up of the best practices. This partnership is working towards strengthening ESD within the CBD with the support of MoEFCC and UNESCO.
